Dacryoadenitis Treatment
What is Dacryoadenitis ?
When the lacrimal glands (also know as tear ducts) become blocked, inflammation occurs and the viral, bacterial infection that follows is known as Dacryoadenitis.
More specifically, viral and bacterial infections are known as acute dacryoadenitis, while chronic dacryoadenitis refers to non-infectious causes.
There are many possible causes and catalysts for dacryoadenitis, some more common in children and the elderly. These include:
Acute Dacryoadenitis Causes/Influences
- Staphylococcus (a bacteria that thrives in dry conditions and aging/old food)
- Gonococcus/Gonohorrea (sexual transmitted disease)
- Herpes zoster
- Mononucleosis
- Epstein-Barr Virus (a common family branch of the herpes simplex virus strain)
- Mumps (an epedimic rash and or swelling)
- Coxsackievirus A
- Although Staphylococcus is the most probable cause, other bacteria includes:
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae
- Cytomegalovirus
- Treponema pallidum
- Chlamydia trachomatis
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis/leprae
Chronic Dacryoadenitis Causes/Influences
- Grave’s disease
- Thyroid Eye Disease (swelling an inflammation of the eye sockets/muscles)
- Sarcoidosis (disorder which affects organs, tiny cell clumps form and can disrupt bodily functions)
- Orbital Pseudotumor (swelling of the eye socket tissue)
Dacryoadenitis Symptoms
Symptoms tend be more severe as a child, as implications arise from a lack of bodily immunity and defense.
- Redness - a common symptom for inflammation of any sort, redness on the outer eyelids is common for sufferers of Dacryoadenitis.
- Pain - the inflamed areas will often have localized pain.
- Fluid discharge or excessive tearing are regular.
- Swelling - near the ears and eyelids.
Dacryoadenitis Treatment
As there are so many different possible disorders and diseases influencing the severity of your dacryoadenitis, it’s best to check with a doctor to know the specific and most effective treatment. If you cannot reach a doctor, you can try each of following to see which will yield the greatest results.
Warm Compresses:
A heat pack, or hot cloth pressed against the eyelid frequently can help, several times a day for up to a few minutes at a time.
Time and Rest:
If your case of Dacryoadenitis is relatively non-severe, in due time it may correct itself.
Curing the Influence:
Since Dacryoadenitis is often brought on by another infection or disorder, finding medical treatment after medical consultance is necessary.
