Remedies for Sore Eyelids

Although there are a wide range of conditions that come under ‘sore eyelids‘, you should avoid or do the following in order to avoid further irritation and soreness. Take note that, many of the preventions also act as remedies, since removing the catalyst of your soreness works for both the former and latter.

Preventing irritated eyelids

  • Keep your hands clean: Wash them frequently if you are always having eye issues.
  • Don’t excessively rub them when they started getting itchy.
  • If you feel even minor strain in your eyes after periods of computer/television, get up and do something else for the time being to give them some rest.
  • Air currents are one of the most common causes of sore eyelids - if there is air conditioning running, a fan, or just a windy day, turn them off or close the door.

Curing irritated eyelids

  • Grab a plate or cloth or anything that could be pressed against your eyelids that could be heated up, and press against them. Be careful not to burn yourself.
  • As your sore eyes could be one of many possible infections/causes, heat may not be the answer. Try an icepack.
  • Over the counter eye drops can be bought after you explain the issues with your eye at the chemist. They will recommend the most appropriate type of drops for you.
  • If its something stuck in your eyelids (most probably an eyelash), slow circular massaging motions on your eyelids (make sure your fingers are clean) can often fix the irritation.
  • Give the TV or the computer a rest for a few hours if your eyes are becoming sensitive from it.
  • Change the airflow and/or humidity of the room; Airy, dry rooms are often catalysts for eyelid problems.
