Prevention of chalazion It is recommended to use a baby shampoo or a pre-moistened eyelid cleansing swab, especially in the case of blepharitis, which is the main cause of chalazion. Blepharitis is a chronic inflammation of the openings of the sebaceous glands. Eyelid scrubs are gentle cleansers that soothe inflamed eyelids and help treat some eye conditions. They eliminate bacteria, oils and crusts that form along the lash line.
This helps to relieve itching and inflammation. Using over-the-counter baby shampoo or eyelid wipes, such as Ocusoft or Systane Lid wipes, work well to clean the eyelids. Once your eyelids are warm, you can gently massage the margins of the eyelids with your fingers to massage them circularly or upward and downward. The risks of developing chalazion include blepharitis, Demodex mite infestations, and rosacea, all of which may be due to eyelid obstruction and poor eyelid hygiene.
